The World of Panic and Anxiety Attacks

Everyone at one point or another has experience anxiety. The anticipation of something, the fear of something, it all has resulted in anxiety. It's normal to feel worried or scared about something. However when this fear or anxiety is elevated it can sometimes bring on a panic attack. These attacks are a common onset of an anxiety disorder. Did you know that roughly 20% of the population suffers from panic attacks? It's actually more common than most people may think. Panic attacks have occurred in individuals as young as 12 years of age. While a panic attack is a form of an anxiety disorder, it does differ in symptoms from an anxiety attack.
These attacks can occur suddenly. It can happen at anytime and anyplace. It can occur while driving, shopping or just doing a general task. Phobias can be developed as a result of these attacks. For instance if someone had an attack while driving, they may avoid driving all together for fear of having another attack. This behavior can severely debilitate someone and decrease their enjoyment for life. This behavior can actually set off future panic attacks. The fear of having to drive somewhere can cause an attack. So you can see that it doesn't just have to be the act itself but it can be the fear of anticipating the act. This can cause another disorder known as agoraphobia.
These attacks can cause problems at work, with friends and with family. This is no joke and these attacks can limit a person quality of life. The key to getting past this disorder and moving on to a more productive life is to seek help. There are so many ways that this disorder can be treated. However, it just takes making that first step towards a better way of living. Only you have the power to change your life.
